Dealing with Stress   arrow

What causes Stress in your life?

• Work?
• Relationships?
• Health Issues?
• Money worries?

Your stressful state can include a range of experiences, in any of these areas, from things that mildly irritate you to severe problems that could potentially result in a mental or physical breakdown.

Dealing with StressHowever, some stress is absolutely normal – we worry about our relationships, how our children are getting on, our job security and many other specific situations in life. Concern about these matters creates short-term anxiety which heightens our responses and reactions, helping us to deal with stressful situations. The problem is resolved, the question answered and our stress subsides.

Stress becomes a problem when over-concern occurs, resulting in excessive worry which can result in us feeling that we have lost control over aspects of our lives. We find we are living in a state of hyper-arousal which can threaten our physical, mental and emotional well-being.
How Stress affects your Mind and Body

When you experience acute stress, your brain triggers the release of hormones which can raise your blood pressure. Simultaneously, normal bodily functions, such as relaxed breathing, are suppressed and tension becomes widely felt. Unresolved stress can then lead to anxiety, fear and depression.

Consequently, the relief of stress is critical if you are to maintain a sense of well-being. Sadly, this is often neglected with many people believing that things will simply go away and they will feel better. Learning how to manage feeling stressed is the key to remaining healthy.
